STAR WARS

How does STAR WARS: The Force Awakens unlock the key to Great Storytelling?  The key to great storytelling is based on your main character’s DILEMMA. The Dilemma is when your main character must choose between two things with equal significance – but they can’t have both!

But how do you dramatize this dilemma?

Dilemma is based on the dramatic tension between your main character’s mode – how they try to achieve their goals — and what they need to learn about life — to fulfill their potential.

In Star Wars EPISODE VII: The Force Awakens our heroine Rey’s (Daisy Ridleymode is to be a scavenger — living alone inside the wreckage of a downed Galactic four-legged combat walker, with her main goal being to survive until her family returns (though they’ve been gone for a long time!).

What does Rey need to learn on a universal level that is in contrast to her desire to survive?

Rey needs to learn to let go of her survival mode, trust others through her friendship with Finn (John Boyega) and to learn to trust herself by surrendering to the guiding light of the force to fulfill her destiny.

Because Rey’s dilemma is based on two positive things – survival vs. growth – the Star Wars audience remains engaged because they want to see how this seemingly insoluble dilemma will be resolved: will she survive by going it alone, or will she thrive by trusting Finn and risking her life?

Star Wars EPISODE VII: The Force Awakens is a true Heroine’s Journey where Rey reconnects with her deeper feminine power through group participation.  Sign up on our mailing list to receive news of our soon to be released The Heroine’s Journey video workshop and to receive our weekly blogs.
